Detailed description
Blade in carbon steel (90MCV8) forged using traditional methods.
This is a knife with a lot of character that will not go unnoticed, whether with a plain Morta handle or mammoth ivory inlays. You can also opt for its elegant blue border.
Ideal indoors and outdoors
Its comfortable grip makes it a precious companion for meals, as well as the indispensable pocket knife for hikes, picnics, hunting or fishing trips, camping or other outdoor activities. This very atypical model will quickly become a personal knife: your Morta knife.
Materials
Plain Morta handle or optionally embellished with three mammoth ivory inlays on both sides of the handle.
This way you get the unusual combination of two fossils in one knife handle. 10,000 years for the ivory and 5,000 years for the Morta. You can also opt for the elegant blue border in vulcanized fibre that adds a subtle touch of modernity to an authentic, traditional object.
The carbon steel (90MCV8) used for the blade is forged in a traditional way on the anvil and offers an excellent cutting edge and easy sharpening. It will acquire a patina from use over time.
The blades are forged in the workshop but due to the influx of orders, we are happy to be able to count on the aid of our colleague and friend Frédéric Marchand, who forges certain blades for Morta Knives, in addition to his personal production.
Care instructions
Like all knives made with natural materials (wood, horn, etc.), avoid the handle coming into contact with water. This one has been carefully oiled and the frequent contact with the palm of the hand will give it a patinated and authentic aspect that will make your Morta unique. The steel of this model will acquire a lovely patina over time. It is easily sharpened on a whetstone or sharpening stone.
Any questions?
Can we visit the workshop ?
Yes. We gladly welcome you from Monday through Saturday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. in September to June and to 7 p.m. in July and August.
You will discover our unfiltered work environment: noise, dust and good spirits. Nothing is staged or orchestrated. One of us will give you a presentation of the material, the extraction techniques and the different product models here.
What are the differences between the steels ?
With a bit of common sense and lots of love 😉
Avoid submerging your knife. For added safety, simply avoid the handle coming into contact with water, because like wood or horn, Morta is a natural material that does not like water.
You can rub a little beeswax over the handle to brighten up its colour subtleties. Place a drop of oil in the mechanism if necessary. But generally speaking, normal use requires nothing in particular in terms of care.
