Detailed description
Oil or water sharpening stone. Using a sharpening stone requires a lubricant, which can be oil or water (don’t mix the two).
Once the stone is lubricated with water or a drizzle of oil, you will obtain a razor sharp cutting edge by regular passes of the edge of your Morta knife blade over the sharpening stone.
Size: 16 cm long x 3.5 cm wide x 1.5 cm thick.
Atelier JHP offers stones that have two sides with 2 grains: one slightly granular for rapid sharpening, the other polished for a finer finish.
Their compact size, while still generous, makes them easy to use, both at home or when camping or hiking for instance.
Saurat natural sharpening stone
The last manufacturer of natural sharpening stones, founded in the early 1900s, is located in the Saurat valley, at the foot of the Ariège Pyrenees.
The exploitation of this schistose sandstone, with its very fine grain and mineralogical purity, which produces rational, perfect sharpening, has given rise to the creation of a full range of sharpening tools.

Can we visit the workshop ?
Yes. We gladly welcome you from Monday through Saturday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. in September to June and to 7 p.m. in July and August.
You will discover our unfiltered work environment: noise, dust and good spirits. Nothing is staged or orchestrated. One of us will give you a presentation of the material, the extraction techniques and the different product models here.
What are the differences between the steels ?
With a bit of common sense and lots of love 😉
Avoid submerging your knife. For added safety, simply avoid the handle coming into contact with water, because like wood or horn, Morta is a natural material that does not like water.
You can rub a little beeswax over the handle to brighten up its colour subtleties. Place a drop of oil in the mechanism if necessary. But generally speaking, normal use requires nothing in particular in terms of care.
